Calibrating Your ThunderBolt (Noise Test) instructions

The ThunderBolt software uses self-monitoring and self-adjusting software routines to insure that the unit always performs according to specification, even as it ages.  In order to allow these functions to work properly, the user must run the Noise Test routine periodically.

The following guidelines for running the Noise Test should be followed:

  1. Read the Noise Test guidelines provided in the ThunderBolt user manual and available on the website.
  2. Always re-run the Noise test if the ThunderBolt is moved to a different operating environment.  For example, if a unit is moved from a home environment to an industrial area, or from a field location into an office environment.
  3. Re-run the Noise test after any extended period of unit storage.
  4. Re-run the Noise test if the primary power source shifts from battery to line power, or vice-versa.
  5. In general, re-running the Noise test every 60 days is a good precaution to take against unexpected or unknown changes in the ThunderBolt's operating environment.
  6. Older units can eventually experience signal loss due to the general aging of the electronics and contacts.  If an older unit loses sensitivity and running the Noise Test does not clear the problem, it should be returned to TBI for testing of the receiving antenna and other electronics.
