As the manufacturer, the ThunderBolt® product currently in production is the end result of more than a decade of dedicated research into the physics of thunderstorms and lightning. More important as a role in providing proprietary advantage in the marketplace for storm safety technology is the years of experience gained in the process of tracking and mapping thousands of storms. The physical processes involved in the average summer thunderstorm are complicated and often poorly documented in the established literature. The technology necessary to detect the basic electromagnetic emissions from lightning is relatively simple. The ability to interpret that data and provide useful warning information to an average user is based on knowledge and techniques that are only produced by years of field work and analysis of what actually happens during the life-cycle of a thunderstorm.
